On A Positive Note (What Positivity In The Workplace Brings)

Updated: Apr 20, 2024

While through my blogs I tend to lean towards highlighting the negative in the workplace there is a lot of good. Not all bosses are bad, not all coworkers are looking out for themselves and more times then not if you have a good crew around you not only do you love what you do but the days don't seem so long no matter the circumstances around you.

In my 27 years of being in the workforce I have come across more good managers, owners and coworkers then bad. While I have created most of my training to focus on the bad, it is to help bring out the positive in the workplace and help create a more cohesive environment.

For the majority of 2022 I found myself in the kitchen of a small, family owned restaurant. While the days were long and in the summer the kitchen was hot and busy, the ability that the staff was given by the owners to find our own way to not only find our rhythm in our workspace with at times difficult customers and heat exhausted, tired staff made the days not only manageable but easier then they could have been.

Between music, laughter and owners that were willing to jump in where they could to give their tired staff a break and also take part in the laughs made the hot, busy days feel a lot less stressful. While they made sure the staff was ok at work they also were sure that if we needed to be home for whatever the reason, there was no fear to ask or at times not even have to ask.

As I said, they weren't all good and as in all work environments there was dark spots, bad days and in house fighting but being able to work it out and be heard more then in some other environments meant that we were able to sort out our differences and ban together to fight through the tough days.

Positivity in the workplace takes the busiest times in less then ideal working conditions and turn them around to a more uplifting day. When doing my research and studying statistics, work environments that were more focused on making sure their staff were safe and happy found higher productivity and higher profits from times when they had a lower staff standard. They find less sick days, less complaints and more team work and cooperation in their staff.

A positive work environment also carries on into the workers home life as well, they go home feeling more accomplished, less stressed and their level of energy is usually higher meaning more quality time with their family and friends. Having a positive work life helps contribute to better work/life balance, better mental health in the workplace and less negativity in your business.
